Have a little respect, would you?

I really don’t like training new people at work. I know, that makes me sound like a snob, but it’s really not like that at all.

We’ve had some really nice people come and apply for the cooking job where I work. Sadly, none of them seem to ever work out for a long period of time, so it’s an endless cycle of training new person after new person. And frankly, some of them come in with horrible attitudes and expect to be catered to.

Like the woman I worked with today. She seemed nice at first. I went in at 7:00 this morning, said hello and introduced myself. We had a nice exchange of words, and we got back to work. Before I knew it, she started ordering me around! Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that you owned the place. I guess my two years of experience here hasn’t taught me a thing. By all means, let me drop what I’m doing to do your job. After all, I only work here to be your kitchen slave. Here, take my days earnings while you’re at it!

It infuriates me. I’m all about helping people out at work, and I’ll go above and beyond if they genuinely need it. But if you’re going to be a total biotch, then forget about it! I have my own problems, anyway.

“Go make me a salad,” or “I need some french fries, NOW,” isn’t exactly my idea of asking nicely. Didn’t your momma ever teach you any manners? Especially when it’s your first day of work? I seriously wanted to tell her what she could do with those french fries, but then I thought that with an attitude like that, there’s no way she’s going to be sticking around very long. So I swallowed my anger and went on with it.

Her rudeness did nothing to benefit her, anyway. Before she went all Bitchy McPissypants on me, I was going to clean up for her before my shift ended. And I was going to make sure everything was stocked for tomorrow. By the end of the day, she was sulking and griping so much it would’ve put Chris Crocker to shame. I laughed a little inside. I could totally tell she hated me. But I didn’t really care. You can’t treat someone like shit and then expect them to come running every time you need help with something. I thought that was common sense? R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

Le sigh. She’ll probably be gone by tomorrow, anyway.

Blackberries are tart little things

Oh, but they are oh so yummy! According to Google, the only blackberries in existence today are usually a few clusters of wires wrapped in a nifty plastic exterior. And they’re shiny! But I’m keeping it old school today folks, lest we forget the poor little fruit from which those blasted smartphones got their name!

Dylan and I got out earlier today and picked a few handfuls from the blackberry bushes in our back yard. We had a lot of fun, however I had to keep reminding him NOT to pick the ones close to the ground! We sure wouldn’t want to eat one that the dog previously lifted his leg on. Which was a shame, because a lot of the big juicy ones were lying on the ground. We ended up with a quite a bit though. (And um…I made some muffins with some, too!)

Mmmm, deliciousness

More yummy photos under the cut!
