Have a little respect, would you?

I really don’t like training new people at work. I know, that makes me sound like a snob, but it’s really not like that at all.

We’ve had some really nice people come and apply for the cooking job where I work. Sadly, none of them seem to ever work out for a long period of time, so it’s an endless cycle of training new person after new person. And frankly, some of them come in with horrible attitudes and expect to be catered to.

Like the woman I worked with today. She seemed nice at first. I went in at 7:00 this morning, said hello and introduced myself. We had a nice exchange of words, and we got back to work. Before I knew it, she started ordering me around! Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that you owned the place. I guess my two years of experience here hasn’t taught me a thing. By all means, let me drop what I’m doing to do your job. After all, I only work here to be your kitchen slave. Here, take my days earnings while you’re at it!

It infuriates me. I’m all about helping people out at work, and I’ll go above and beyond if they genuinely need it. But if you’re going to be a total biotch, then forget about it! I have my own problems, anyway.

“Go make me a salad,” or “I need some french fries, NOW,” isn’t exactly my idea of asking nicely. Didn’t your momma ever teach you any manners? Especially when it’s your first day of work? I seriously wanted to tell her what she could do with those french fries, but then I thought that with an attitude like that, there’s no way she’s going to be sticking around very long. So I swallowed my anger and went on with it.

Her rudeness did nothing to benefit her, anyway. Before she went all Bitchy McPissypants on me, I was going to clean up for her before my shift ended. And I was going to make sure everything was stocked for tomorrow. By the end of the day, she was sulking and griping so much it would’ve put Chris Crocker to shame. I laughed a little inside. I could totally tell she hated me. But I didn’t really care. You can’t treat someone like shit and then expect them to come running every time you need help with something. I thought that was common sense? R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

Le sigh. She’ll probably be gone by tomorrow, anyway.

    Twitter:
How incredibly rude of her. I hope she’s gone soon so you don’t have to deal with her any longer. Negative people in the workplace make work 1000x worse than it needs to be.

How rude! I can’t believe someone would waltz in on their first day and act that like. Hope she doesn’t plan on staying very long, though I know it will suck to have to train someone else…

BTW, I love reading your blog. You make the simplest stories so interesting with your choice of words!

I don’t understand people at times. They beg for jobs and when they get them they completely don’t deserve them. Ugh, I hope she learns to be more respectful no matter where she’s employed. I’m sorry you have to put up with people. I’d love to work with you! Too bad I’m all the way down here XD

Oh goodness. Some people just don’t know how to treat others, do they? “Would you mind making me a salad, please?” or “Can you please grab me an order or french fries – I have my hands full” would have sufficed. Maybe she was just stressed on her first day and was trying to fit in? Probably not, but I try to assume the best. I hope she gets nicer!

I believe it is, but maybe she didn’t get the memo. I hate it when people act like that and don’t do their fair share at work. I am hoping that someone great comes along permanently for you soon and for your sake!
